5 Reasons to #hack4detroit

By Automation Alley Staff | Automation Alley | 5/5/2015

Back by popular demand, Automation Alley is inviting the region’s brightest and best computer programmers and coders to compete in a 24-hour #hack4detroit event in downtown Detroit! If you’re a coder, here are five reasons why you should participate:

1 — There’s a $5,000 grand prize! Last year, teams were challenged to build an app for Detroit Public Library and two interns from Detroit Venture Partners went home with the $5,000 grand prize. Check out this video of the teams hard at work building their apps:

2 — You’re giving back to Detroit. Each year, our hackathon challenges coders to solve a technology problem in the city by building an app for a worthy cause. Stay tuned to see what the coders will work on this year!

3 — Sharpen your skills. Make sure you’re on top of your coding game and impress the judges! #hack4detroit apps will be judged by CEOs from some of the top tech companies in our region, including Sean Hurwitz of Pixo and Brian Balasia of Digerati. Not to mention Beth Niblock, CIO for the City of Detroit.

4 — Network with other coders and tech professionals. This 24-hour event presents the perfect opportunity to connect with like-minded tech professionals — not only the aforementioned judges, but also your competitors. The event is hosted at Grand Circus Detroit and includes breakfast and lunch. Both students and professionals alike are welcome.

5 — You get a t-shirt! Seriously. After 24 hours of hacking, you might need a new shirt to go home in. And at least this one has a cool logo:
