Top 8 Podcasts You Should Be Listening To

Pavan Muzumdar

Over the past few years, there's been a significant rise in the popularity of podcasts. The way we consume media continues to evolve with new technology, and so have podcasts, which have become easily accessible blogs for our ears. Podcasts are a subject near and dear to my heart, not only because I'm an avid listener, but also because podcasts allow for a deeper dive into subject matter, a way to get you thinking differently, and to open your mind to new ideas and concepts. Whatever your interest, there is a podcast out there for you. Below is a compilation of my favorite podcasts, covering topics ranging from technology, business and entrepreneurship to public policy and human motivation. Happy listening!

1. Planet Money
"The economy, explained, with stories and surprises. Imagine you could call up a friend and say, "Meet me at the bar and tell me what's going on with the economy." Now imagine that's actually a fun evening. That's what we're going for at Planet Money. People seem to like it."

2. Freakonomics
"Host Stephen Dubner has surprising conversations that explore the riddles of everyday life and the weird wrinkles of human nature—from cheating and crime to parenting and sports. Dubner talks with Nobel laureates and provocateurs, social scientists and entrepreneurs — and his Freakonomics co-author Steve Levitt."

3. The TED Radio Hour
"A journey through fascinating ideas, astonishing inventions and new ways to think and create. Based on riveting TEDTalks from the world's most remarkable minds."

4. How I Built This
"How I Built This is a podcast about innovators, entrepreneurs, and idealists, and the stories behind the movements they built. Each episode is a narrative journey marked by triumphs, failures, serendipity and insight — told by the founders of some of the world's best known companies and brands. If you've ever built something from nothing, something you really care about — or even just dream about it — check out How I Built This hosted by Guy Raz."

5. Radiolab
"Radiolab is a show about curiosity. Where sound illuminates ideas, and the boundaries blur between science, philosophy, and human experience."

6. Fresh Air
"Fresh Air from WHYY, the Peabody Award-winning weekday magazine of contemporary arts and issues, is one of public radio's most popular programs. Hosted by Terry Gross, the show features intimate conversations with today's biggest luminaries."

7. Hidden Brain
"The Hidden Brain helps curious people understand the world – and themselves. Using science and storytelling, Hidden Brain's host Shankar Vedantam reveals the unconscious patterns that drive human behavior, the biases that shape our choices, and the triggers that direct the course of our relationships."

8. 99% Invisible
"Ever wonder how inflatable men came to be regular fixtures at used car lots? Curious about the origin of the fortune cookie? Want to know why Sigmund Freud opted for a couch over an armchair? 99% Invisible is about all the thought that goes into the things we don’t think about — the unnoticed architecture and design that shape our world."
