Automation Alley members to take part in Manufacturing Day 2017

8/30/2017

With nearly 1,000 Manufacturing Day (MFG DAY) events taking place across the nation on Friday, Oct. 6, Automation Alley would like to highlight those happening in our own backyard — specifically, the events being hosted by our member organizations.

As our current manufacturing workforce ages, it is imperative that we not only educate, but also get children excited about the many interesting and well-paying jobs available through manufacturing. Together, we are exposing thousands of local students to careers in manufacturing and inspiring the next generation of our workforce.

While MFG DAY 2017 officially takes place Oct. 6, companies and community organizations are hosting student groups for public and private events throughout the month of October.

Here’s what’s happening at our member facilities:

Comau

Comau will host not one, but three tours this year for Manufacturing Day 2017. This year, Comau’s third year participating, student groups will tour the company’s Innovation Center in Southfield, Mich. and will have the opportunity to challenge a Comau robot to a basketball shootout. With great success in previous years, Comau is expanding participation to all locations in Michigan. The Comau team at Southfield, Novi and Royal Oak are looking forward to Manufacturing Day 2017.

DASI Solutions

DASI Solutions is proud to once again be a host and participate in Manufacturing Day. Each year, the company brings in student groups for presentations about engineering and manufacturing, showcasing careers and technologies. Students will hear about training pathways, learn about industry-standard design software and tour an Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing Lab.

Fori Automation

Fori Automation team members will walk students through the product development life cycle, including: sales proposals, mechanical and electrical engineering and the manufacturing floor where they will see the assembly and testing of various automation equipment for automotive and non-automotive industries. Learn about design and manufacturing processes for high-tech automotive equipment, types of career opportunities available within this industry and skills required for this industry.

Macomb County Government

Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development and the Macomb Intermediate School District are pleased to coordinate their fifth annual celebration of MFG DAY. Located in the greater Detroit area where manufacturing is a mainstay of the local economy, this coordinated event provides an opportunity for students in all 28 public high schools to visit a local plant to see the industry in action.

As a follow-up, Macomb County will also host a "Careers in Manufacturing and Technology Expo" at Macomb Community College on Dec. 6, 2017. This evening event for students and their families features interactive exhibits, a chance to interact with local employers and learn about their employee development programs and a panel discussion featuring employees within the industry.

RAVE Computer

Following a brief introductory presentation, students will tour the manufacturing and product development areas of RAVE Computer and experience a uniquely immersive modeling simulation and visualization experience in the RAVE CAVE (Center for Automated Virtual Environments), tying in to students' computer technology studies. Dress code: school attire; close toe shoes for safety.

Wenzel America

Get a look inside the world of Metrology, and learn how measurement is a key part of the manufacturing process. Wenzel will provide hands on demonstrations of different technologies like laser scanning, white light, and industrial CT scanning. No special safety precautions are required.
