The vision of using metal additive manufacturing (AM) for distributed manufacturing—i.e., 3D printing the same industrial product within specification at geographically dispersed locations—is a compelling one.
While conventional manufacturing technology has delivered in-country products on a global basis for decades, that has often involved dedicated, high-cost production assets and personnel that lack flexibility.
