Donald Hutchison is the current dean of Engineering and Advanced Technology at Macomb Community College (MCC) where he manages an array of STEM-related programs, federally funded grants and apprenticeship programs. Prior to MCC, Don served as Dean of Engineering, Manufacturing and Industrial Technologies at Oakland Community College.

Don is a graduate of the Focus: HOPE Machinist Training Institute, an inner-city based non-profit organization in Detroit, MI where he began his career in the manufacturing industry. He graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology from Lawrence Technological University and obtained a Master of Science degree in Manufacturing Operations from Kettering University.

Don was also employed by General Motors Corporation (GM) for ten years, holding several positions in the design and engineering disciplines; ultimately being promoted to Staff Manufacturing Engineer. During his time at GM, Don successfully completed multiple international assignments in Ruesselsheim, Germany to facilitate the implementation of common CAD and simulation-based software programs and manufacturing processes between GM North America and GM Europe.

Don has also consulted state government-funded projects, non-profit organizations and multi-national corporations on building and retaining a diverse manufacturing workforce.

Industry 4.0 Offerings

MCC is aligned with SACA to provide I4.0 certs to students. Vehicle Engineering Technician program as it integrates content from multiple academic disciplines.
